Open House in the Rain

Posted By: Kelly Marston

Today was a wonderful Open House and Farm Tour. A highlight of our day was feeding the four-day old lambs. They and their mother are staying in the Cow Barn through the heavy rains as they are still quite small. You can see a picture of one of the lambs being taken care of by Billie, one of the camp dogs, on our Facebook page.

Weather

Rain, hail, and generally stormy weather. Not generally the opening of a great day on the farm. Part of the Plantation magic seems to be that sun comes out when it is needed. We were thankful for the sun, or at least non-rain, that we had while touring the meadows, herding sheep (great job on the part of our visitors), and feeding the animals.

Menu

John made a couple of soups using farm-fresh chicken stock and vegetables that came from the farm box we get from our son's school. All the kids devoured Potato Bacon Leek Soup while the adults also enjoyed the Broccoli Soup. Yes, bacon won out over green soup. Accompanied by organic cheese, fresh bread and fruit everyone was warm and full after a morning of doing chores on the farm.

Award of the Day

We squelched through lots of mud, but hands down Lucinda sought out and found the most. She also smiled with glee regardless of whether she was easily tromping through it or falling down.

As we prepare for summer, we were also especially happy to have Senior Staffer, Amy, join us today. She was home from Colorado and what better place to spend the day? There are lots of plans in the works that we discussed so stay tuned...
